Corporate accountability and intersectional gender justice in Mexico’s garment industry: Voices from the ground

Feb 9, 2026 | 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Description

Organised by Proyecto de Derechos Económicos Sociales y Culturales (ProDESC), Colectiva de Mujeres Rosa Luxemburgo (CROL), Oxfam México, Fundación Avina, Ethos Innovación en Políticas Públicas Title in Spanish: Rendición de cuentas empresarial y justicia de género interseccional en la industria indumentaria en México: voces desde el territorio The session will address the structural challenges related to labor human rights in the garment industry in Mexico, with an emphasis on the need to strengthen corporate accountability through an intersectional gender perspective. Mexico’s garment industry is characterized by a high concentration of women workers in precarious conditions—many of them Indigenous, migrant, or young—who face multiple forms of violence and discrimination. Despite regulatory advances, current due-diligence frameworks do not sufficiently address these structural inequalities. For this reason, the session seeks to highlight how an intersectional approach can strengthen due-diligence practices by enabling a deeper understanding of the differentiated impacts experienced by various groups of women workers.
