Alessandra Proto is the Head of the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development, part of the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities, and based in Trento, Italy. She oversees the Centre’s work in providing policy analysis, strategic advice and capacity building to support the design and implementation of place-based policies that respond to local needs and leverage the drivers of local economic growth and well-being in both OECD member and partner countries. Under her leadership, the Centre develops and delivers a wide range of initiatives focused on local development, including thematic studies and peer reviews on spatial productivity, which explores how geographic and spatial factors influence economic performance and how policy can enhance productivity across different types of regions. Alessandra joined the OECD in 2004 as a policy analyst and has since led numerous international projects on local development. She holds a degree in Economics of Public Administration and International Institutions from Bocconi University in Milan.
