Deputy Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean

Description

Since April 1, 2025, Fabio Bertranou, an Argentine national, has served as Deputy Director of the ILO Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Lima, Peru. He was previously Director of the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America, based in Santiago, Chile, a position he held since April 1, 2015. Mr. Bertranou holds a degree in Economics from the National University of Cuyo (Argentina) and a PhD in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh (United States). He has extensive experience in the analysis of public policies related to the labor market, social security, social protection, and pensions. He has been with the ILO since 2001. Prior to joining the Organization, he worked in various capacities: as an academic researcher, an official at the Ministry of Finance of the Province of Mendoza and at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, as well as a consultant for the World Bank and other international organizations. He has published numerous technical and academic works on labor and social issues in Latin America. His research has appeared in specialized journals such as International Social Security Review, World Development, Research on Aging, Health Policy, Journal of Social Policy, Desarrollo Económico, and Revista de Economía Laboral.
