Description
Sabine Junginger is Professor of Design and Vice Chancellor's Fellow at Northumbria University. She advises the OECD's Government-to-Government Innovation Incubation Project, has led competitive research funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, and serves on the editorial boards of Design Issues (MIT Press) and She Ji (Tongji University). Her work is grounded in the ordinary moments of everyday life where people actually meet their government, where civil servants engage with members of the public and where trust is either built or quietly eroded.
A designer by training, with a PhD from Carnegie Mellon, she has spent two decades linking human-centered design approaches with policymaking and policy implementation. Her research and practice have informed the OECD, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, and public administrations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. She is an expert in leading interdisciplinary collaborative breakthrough innovation and has led international research projects.
As Fellow of the Hertie School and Author of Transforming Public Services by Design, her research insists that design remains a democratic act: a way of putting people, not procedures, at the centre of policy-making and policy implementation.
