Description
Anithra brings over a decade of experience in the not for profit and human rights sector, spanning a diverse portfolio of roles across development, labour rights, and social justice. She began her career at the Sri Lanka Youth Climate Action Network before joining World Vision Sri Lanka after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of London.
While based in Melbourne, Anithra completed a Master’s degree in International Development at RMIT University and worked with Sisterworks, an organisation supporting refugee women through economic empowerment.
After returning to Sri Lanka, she continued her work across the development and human rights landscape, collaborating with organisations including MSI, Pact International, and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. Her work during this period focused on enforced disappearances, torture, land and housing rights, and labour rights, particularly in Sri Lanka’s apparel and plantation sectors.
Anithra joined the Business and Human Rights Centre in January 2024 as South Asia Researcher and Representative. Between 2024 and 2025, she completed a Master’s degree in Migration and Development Studies at SOAS, University of London, alongside her professional work. Since October 2025, she has served as Interim Project Manager for the Labour Rights portfolio, leading work on just transition, freedom of association, and decent work across global supply chains.
