Description
Jyoti Macwan is the elected general secretary of Self Employed Women’s Association, SEWA- an only Central trade union of the women workers of the informal economy in India with membership of 3.2 million spread in 18 states. She joined SEWA in 1986. She is a General Secretary of SEWA since last 18 years and is responsible for ensuring that SEWA attains its goal of full employment and self-reliance for its members and monitoring the activities accordingly.
She is also the member of the Board of Directors of SEWA bank, a registered Cooperative Bank governed by the Reserve Bank of India. She is a Director on the Board of SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre- a company owned by 15,000 women artisan members of SEWA. At international platform she also represents SEWA as Vice President in the Executive Committee of International Union of Food (IUF) and International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). She also is a Board member of Women’s World Summit Foundation of Geneva. She is also a Director of the Grassroots Trading Network for Women implementing Hariyali - the energy inclusion initiative of SEWA.
