I am the Just Transitions Advisors at Ethical Trading Initiative, an alliance of of trade unions, NGOs and companies, working together to advance human rights in global supply chains.
We work collaboratively with our members operating in sectors that are both highly vulnerable to climate change and significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts, but which to date have received less attention than sectors such as energy. These include apparel and textiles.
We bring together a focus on understanding and addressing human rights impacts for workers that arise from a) the climate crisis itself, and b) the strategies, policies and decisions made by business as they transition to a net zero economy.
Social dialogue with workers is core to our approach. Workers are both rights-holders and sources of knowledge and expertise on how the world of work is changing in the era of climate crisis.
