Climate literacy in action: Practical tools for classroom learning and assessment

OnlineNov 17, 2026 | 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Description

Climate change is entering PISA for the first time - is your classroom ready? Starting in 2029, PISA will assess climate literacy alongside reading, mathematics, and science. This is a major shift for education systems worldwide, making it essential for schools and teachers to prepare early. This session introduces the framework behind the PISA 2029 climate literacy assessment, results from pilot tests, along with practical materials designed to help teachers build these competencies in the classroom. The OECD and its partners will present a new digital platform with learning and formative assessment resources built around real-world climate phenomena, connecting students' lived experiences with scientific explanations and evidence-based inquiry. The session explores how teachers can use these interactive resources to support progression toward the key competencies PISA will assess: understanding human-induced climate change, applying evidence-based reasoning, evaluating perspectives, and exercising agency for climate futures.
