What works in climate policy? Using systematic evidence synthesis to inform policymaking

OnlineNov 6, 2026 | 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Description

The Climate Policy Effectiveness Network (CPEN) is part of the OECD’s Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA), a flagship OECD initiative designed to help optimise the global impact of emissions reduction efforts around the world through better data and information sharing, evidence-based mutual learning and inclusive multilateral dialogue. CPEN provides a repository and data platform for policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders to extract and analyse information on the effectiveness of climate policies and facilitates access to empirical ex-post evaluations of climate policies, enabling comparisons across countries, policy types and sectors. This session will showcase the CPEN platform and selected findings from its literature review and meta-analysis of the drivers of mitigation policy effectiveness. Speakers will also share insights from policy evaluation in Australia and the UK, and discuss how CPEN fits within the broader landscape of evidence-synthesis efforts, including work undertaken by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and other international initiatives.
