Driving the transformation in hard-to-abate sectors

OnlineNov 12, 2026 | 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Description

Hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals amongst others are essential to modern economies and will remain critical as countries continue to invest in infrastructure, urbanisation and industrial development. However, these sectors also account for a significant share of global emissions and face substantial barriers to decarbonisation, including high capital costs, long investment cycles, technological uncertainty and challenging market conditions. This session will explore how governments, industry and financial actors can accelerate the transition to low-emission industrial production. Discussions will examine the role of policy frameworks, financing mechanisms and market incentives in supporting the deployment of climate solutions and transformative industrial technologies. Particular attention will be given to the conditions needed to mobilise investment, scale existing solutions and foster innovation in hard-to-abate sectors. By strengthening connections between industrial projects and sources of finance, countries can help unlock private capital and accelerate industrial transformation at scale.
