Building Development from the Ground Up: Balancing Local Autonomy and National Vision

Jul 8, 2025 | 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Puerta de Oro - Deep dive room 4

Description

The event will foster a high-level dialogue among policymakers, national and international experts as well as local stakeholders on the link between decentralization, territorial autonomy, and local economic development. It will also serve as a platform for sharing international experiences — including South-South cooperation models — that can help inform and strengthen the design and implementation of ongoing reforms. This event will take place at a key moment in the national debate, marked by discussions on the reform of the General System of Transfers (SGP) and the development of a new Law on Competencies. These reforms present an opportunity to rethink and strengthen the role of local governments in the country’s economic and social development agenda. In this context, the event aims to position the territorial approach as a strategic tool to advance toward more equitable, resilient, and sustainable development, reducing regional disparities and strengthening the autonomy and capacities of local territories.
