Description
François Villeroy de Galhau is Governor of the Banque de France since 2015.
A graduate of the École Polytechnique and ENA, he began his career as an Inspector of Finance and went on to hold several senior posts in the French administration, including chief of staff to Finance Ministers Dominique Strauss‑Kahn and Christian Sautter, and Director General of Taxation. He later represented France in Brussels as financial advisor at the Permanent Representation.
In 2003, he joined BNP Paribas, first as CEO of Cetelem and later as head of the group’s retail banking in France, before becoming Chief Operating Officer. He returned to public service in 2015 and now serves on the Governing Council of the European Central Bank and, since 2022, as President of the Bank for International Settlements. He is also the author of several books on economic policy and Europe.
