Achim Hartig
Germany Trade & Invest | Chair of OECD IPA Network
Managing Director
Description
Achim Hartig leads the Invest division of Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) as Managing Director, running Germany's global foreign direct investment operation across the agency's international locations. The division identifies and wins international companies for Germany and Europe and supports them through establishment, and it advises German firms on international growth.
His policy mandates follow from that operating role. He has chaired the OECD Network of Investment Promotion Agencies since 2021 and has served on the OECD FDI Qualities Advisory Board since 2023. He advises governments and European institutions on investment policy, and national investment promotion agencies on strategy, organisation and operating practice. He currently leads a European initiative to build coordinated cooperation between national investment promotion agencies and the European Commission.
His earlier career was in international management and strategy consulting. As executive partner at the strategy consulting subsidiary of an international merchant bank, he managed a portfolio across retail banking, wealth management and investment banking in Europe and Asia. He was previously an executive partner at Bloom Lensington, and led corporate strategy, M&A and restructuring mandates for European companies in telecommunications, retail and financial services.
Achim teaches "Doing Business in Germany" on the Executive MBA programme at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. He studied music, musicology and cultural management in Berlin before completing an MBA in European Management in London.
