Description
Dr. Miguel Antonio Bernal Villalaz is a Panamanian lawyer and political scientist with extensive academic and professional experience in constitutional law, political science, public international law, and public governance. He holds degrees in Law and Political Science and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Bordeaux, France. He is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Lehigh University and was awarded the French Republic’s Order of Academic Palms at the rank of Commander. Dr. Bernal is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Panama, where he teaches Political Science, Constitutional Law, and Public International Law. He has also taught at universities in the United States and Latin America, including UNAM, Davidson College, and Lehigh University. He has held several leadership positions in academia and the legal profession, including President of the Institute of Political and International Studies and the Panamanian Association of Constitutional Law. He also served as Presidential Adviser on constitutional matters and Executive Coordinator for State Reorganization and Constitutional Affairs within Panama’s Ministry of the Presidency. His career combines academia, public service, constitutional affairs, and engagement in public policy and democratic governance.
