Description

Gerald has worked at Wellington City Council for 20 years, currently as Principal Advisor Design Strategy in the City Design team. He has worked in various built environment roles over the last 35 years; as a residential developer, a registered architect and at Auckland Council. He has advised Central Government on medium density housing and the importance of design. At Wellington City Council, he has worked in a variety of roles including as Chief Urban Designer. He was involved in developing the waterfront process, including the Waitangi Park project. He engaged with the community on the brief, ran a design competition which led to the successful design being built and opened 20 years ago. He studied urban design at Oxford Brookes University in the UK. He has recently delivered the strategic component of the Green Network Plan to green the central city, which is a critical component to support residential growth while addressing the climate and ecological emergency.
