Presentation

Dr. Alejandro (Alex) Martí is the CEO and co-founder of Mitiga Solutions. Alex also leads the Natural Hazards and Social Hazards (NaSH) group at the Spanish National Supercomputing Centre, and he is a chairman for the United Nations ITU focus group on AI for Natural Hazards. Finally, Alex also serves as international expert for UNDP to design and implement a unified hazard modelling and mapping methodology for extreme weather events. Alex aims at combining his different roles to bridge the gap between science and industry, by developing technological and risk transfer solutions against natural catastrophes for risk managers. In particular, his interest lies in the field of climate adaptation, designing and implementing science-based deterministic models that employs AI and HPC to predict and mitigate the impact of climate and natural hazards. For over a decade, he pioneered the use of geospatial technology to quantify the impact of climate for the U.S. Government, bridging cutting-edge R&D into industry and collaborating with various organizations such as NASA, NOAA, and Microsoft. Prior to that, Alex worked as a climate scientist at the UK Met Office and collaborated with different research and academic stakeholders.
