Description

Dr. Leila Benali: Expert in energy strategies, security and sustainability. Since October 2021, she has been Morocco's Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. She studied engineering at the École Centrale Paris and the École Mohammadia des Ingénieurs, and also holds a DEA in political science and a doctorate Summa Cum Laude in economics from Sciences Po. Dr. Leila Benali worked for three years as an engineer for ONA and Schlumberger, before teaching energy policy at Sciences Po. Between 2002 and 2013, she gained considerable expertise at the energy and defence research and consultancy firm Cambridge Energy Research Associates, which later became IHS, S&P Platts. Among her notable roles during this period was the management of a high-level assignment focused on developing a roadmap and optimising energy supply in a sensitive geopolitical environment for a country in the Levant. In 2013, she joined the Saudi oil giant, Saudi Aramco. Her role included several public policy, strategic and investment files. In 2018, Dr. Leila Benali joined APICORP (now Arab Energy Fund), a financial institution grouping Arab oil exporting countries and specialised in energy, as Chief Strategist and Chief Economist. In 2021, she became a member of the International Energy Forum, the world's largest energy organisation. Dr Leila Benali was one of the 35 members of the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD).
