Environmental Researcher | Policy Analyst | Climate & Natural Resource Governance Specialist
Freeman Mubanga is an environmental researcher and policy analyst specializing in natural resource governance, climate justice, and sustainable development. He currently serves as Head of Research & Studies at the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) in Zambia, where he leads research initiatives on critical minerals, land governance, and environmental sustainability.
With a background in Agroforestry (BSc, Copperbelt University) and advanced training in Natural Resource Governance and Climate Policy, Freeman has contributed to key policy dialogues on responsible mineral supply chains, land tenure systems, and environmental justice. His expertise spans research design, policy evaluation, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy for inclusive and sustainable governance frameworks in Zambia and beyond.
Freeman has worked on high-impact projects, including the Critical Minerals and Land Use Governance in Zambia (CMLUZ) project, where he examines the implications of land rights for the mining sector. He has also collaborated with regional and international organizations on climate resilience, land rights, and business and human rights in resource-dependent communities.
Freeman is a Commonwealth Scholar, currently pursuing an MSc in Agroforestry and Food Security at Bangor University (UK) through distance learning. His research interests include climate-smart land management, sustainable mining governance, and community-led environmental advocacy.
He is passionate about evidence-based policy solutions that empower communities and promote equitable natural resource governance.
