Description
Jonathan Hamisi is a senior policy advisor for the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, and Sustainable Development within the Economic Law and Policy team. He is a geologist with over 15 years of experience in the mining industry, academic research, and government agencies.
Before IISD, Jonathan managed several geological projects, including at the Geological Survey of Sweden, with his experience spanning exploration, project development, mining and post-mining expertise, resource governance, and the implementation of responsible mining practices in the small-scale mining sector. He has also previously held teaching and supervisor positions at Monash University and the University of Stockholm.
Jonathan holds a PhD in Geology from Monash University, Australia, a master’s in geological sciences from Stockholm University, Sweden, and a master’s in geology from Lubumbashi University in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
