Alicia Montalvo Santamaría is, since June 2022, Manager of Climate Action and Positive Biodiversity at CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, being responsible for the implementation of the institution's green agenda. Her professional career has focused on international financial cooperation, trade and environmental economics, mainly in public institutions. Prior to her current position, she was Chief Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Colombia and Executive Director for Spain at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington. As a member of Spain's Senior Corps of Commercial Technicians and State Economists, she has held senior positions in the State Secretariat of Economy, being a member of the Economic Policy Committee of the European Union and the Spanish representative in the Paris Club, implementing the first debt-for-development swap programs. At the Secretary of State for Trade, she served as Director General of Trade and Investment and as Director General of ICEX (Spanish Trade and Investment Agency), promoting numerous initiatives related to sustainability. In addition, at the Spanish Ministry of Environment she served as General Director of Climate Change, actively participating in international summits for the implementation of climate finance mechanisms. Alicia holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Valencia, Spain. She also holds a Master in Management (MPA2) from Harvard University. In the academic field, she was a professor of Environmental Economics and Natural Resources at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid for five years.
