María Lorena Gutiérrez Botero is an industrial engineer with a specialisation in Finance from the Universidad de los Andes, and a Masters and PhD in Finance from Tulane University. Her distinguished professional career began at the Universidad de los Andes, where she was Dean of the School of Management. She then worked in the Colombian National Government, as High Advisor for Good Governance, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency, Minister of Mines and Energy, Ambassador of Colombia to Germany, and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. Subsequently, she joined the financial sector as President of Corficolombiana in 2018, and in 2024 she assumed the Presidency of Grupo Aval. She is a member of several boards of directors.
