Lucy García Montes is the first woman elected as Governor of the department of Sucre, marking a turning point in the political history of this region. She is a leader who represents a new generation of women governing with the heart of the people and a vision for the future—grounded in the territory and with a voice in major global conversations. Born in Sincé, Sucre, and trained as a bacteriologist at the Metropolitan University of Barranquilla, she also holds specializations in Public Management (CECAR), Territorial Government and Public Management (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), and a Master’s degree in Public Health (University of Sucre). Her career, which began through social leadership, has been marked by her commitment to placing institutions at the service of the people. She has served as a councilor and mayor of her municipality, manager for Sucre during the COVID-19 pandemic, the first Secretary of Social Inclusion of Sucre, and now Governor, with a governance model centered on social transformation, women’s empowerment, territorial equity, and sustainable development. From the Governor’s office, she leads an ambitious vision to establish Sucre as a territory of clean energy, vibrant culture, and opportunities for youth and rural communities, focusing on bioeconomy, sustainable tourism, the fight against hunger, and public innovation as drivers of development. National and international recognitions: Award for Transparency and Efficiency in Royalty Investment – DNP and Universidad del Rosario Napolitan Victory Award – Global Democracy, Washington D.C.
