He is a well-known leader in the environmental and sustainability sector in Colombia, with over 20 years of experience. A marine biologist from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, he has held key roles such as Executive Director of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Valleys of Sinú and San Jorge, and Vice Minister at the Ministry of Environment.
At the international level, Fabio has shared his expertise as a consultant for the World Bank, advising on environmental and infrastructure issues in several countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. His ability to unite communities and his collaborative approach have earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and leaders in the environmental sector. Among his accolades is the Presidential Order of San Carlos, one of Colombia’s highest honors, awarded for his exceptional service to the nation.
A major milestone in his career is his role at Conservation International, where he contributed to the identification and design of new protected and conserved areas, helping Colombia officially protect 31% of its land and 37% of its waters—surpassing the global target of protecting 30% by 2030, eight years ahead of schedule. This achievement is not only a victory for Colombia but also for the global community.
