Description

Nicolas Picchiottino is the Secretary General of IDFC and the Head of Public Development Banks at AFD. Nicolas has been working in the field of development for more than 16 years. Prior to his nomination, he served as a Country Director for AFD in Martinique where he managed a wide range of programs from sustainable cities to disaster risk reduction and renewable energies. His career has a strong focus on complex financial instruments. From 2017 to 2019, he served during two years as a secondee at the European Commission for the Guarantee Technical Assessment Group, the risk committee of the European Fund for Sustainable Development. From 2014 to 2017 he was a Senior Investment officer in the Financial Institutions Division specialising in guarantees and later at Proparco, He was in charge of the EURIZ project, the first guarantee blended with EU funds, which aims to provide additional coverage for SMEs with significant developmental impact. He started his career within AFD Group as an economist in French Guyana and later across all French overseas territories. For 6 years, he produced economic outlook reports and sector-specific notes on topics such as housing and business financing.
