OECD Global Parliamentary Network Plenary Meeting 2024

Global Economic Outlook

Apr 3, 2024 | 1:15 PM - 2:45 PM

CC12

Description

Chief Economist Lombardelli will discuss the latest economic findings from the OECD: Disinflation has been continuing. The impact of tighter monetary conditions continues to feed through to the economy, but overall global economic activity has been proving rather resilient. Outcomes continued to diverge across countries, with strong growth in the United States and many emerging-market economies and weaker growth in Europe. Pressures in labour markets are easing, with unemployment remaining at or close to record lows. As real incomes recover with the easing of inflation, growth is expected to strengthen over time. However, over the medium-term, the global economic outlook faces significant challenges linked to weak productivity growth, high public debt, population ageing, climate change and increased geopolitical tensions.
