by The Fair Trade Advocacy Office This session will give an overview of relevant new research about unfair trading practices affecting garment workers outside but also inside the EU, as well as presenting best practises examples by EU fashion SMEs and their obstacle to trade fairly. Agenda: Opening remarks by MEP Anna Cavazzini, Chair of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament Our panel: • Muhammad Azizul Islam, Professor in Sustainability Accounting & Transparency at the University of Aberdeen Business School, co-author of the study Impact of Global Clothing Retailers’ Unfair Practices on Bangladeshi Suppliers During COVID-19 • Sabina Lawreniuk, Research Fellow in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham, co-author of the report Building Forward Worse. How COVID-19 has accelerated the race to the bottom in the global garment industry • Matthew Anderson and Tamsin Bradley, authors of a research on fair purchasing practices by European SMEs in the textile sector (to be published soon) • Artemisa Ljarja, Urgent Appeals Coordinator at Clean Clothes Campaign, co-author of a research on fast fashion purchasing practices in the EU (to be published soon) The session will be moderated by Judith Kirton-Darling, Deputy General Secretary at IndustriAll Europe.
