Initiative description

Durham Region has a rapidly growing population and an economy in continued transformation. Due to historic dominance of the automotive industry in Durham Region, the area has a persistent reputation. Meanwhile, Durham Region has evolved to a knowledge economy with 4 post-secondary institutions and is home to the strongest clustering of nuclear industry businesses in Canada. Durham Region’s dominant nuclear sector is growing rapidly, in terms of employment, talent and supply chain and it is home to two nuclear generating stations, numerous corporate offices and headquarters, and the G7 and Canada’s first grid-scale Small Modular Reactors under construction.
