This session will present a multi-faceted research and policy initiative on artificial intelligence (AI) and anticorruption, currently being undertaken in collaboration between the U. of Sydney and the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (NSW ICAC). Supported by the Australian Research Council, the project seeks to rethink the deployment of AI and automated decision-making systems within government (from initial design through to decommissioning) with a view to strengthening anticorruption safeguards. Ranging from assessing institutional risk appetites for AI to revising procurement frameworks for AI-enabled technologies, the project offers a learning pathway for anticorruption agencies and government entities more broadly.
