Description
Aidan Eyakuze is the Chief Executive Officer of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). The OGP supports its more than 70 member countries, 150 local governments and thousands of civil society partners to co-create and implement ambitious reforms that make governments more open, inclusive, and responsive to citizens. For the decade ending March 2025, Aidan was Executive Director of Twaweza East Africa, a leading regional civil society organization, based in Tanzania. Twaweza works to enable children to learn, citizens to exercise agency and governments to be more open and responsive in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. In May 2016, Aidan joined the global Steering Committee of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). He served as Civil Society Co-Chair of the OGP in 2022, with the Government of Italy. He currently serves on the global boards of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) and the Open Contracting Partnership (OCP). Aidan was named as one of the “World’s 50 Most Influential People Revolutionising Government” by Apolitical and the World Economic Forum in 2020. Before joining Twaweza in 2015, Aidan was Associate Regional Director of the Society for International Development (SID) based in Tanzania. He has 15 years of experience as a scenario practitioner, through participation in national scenario-building projects in Kenya (2000 & 2010), Tanzania (2003), South Africa (2004), Nigeria (2007) and East Africa (2005-2008). He co-lead the publication of the State of East Africa Reports and has facilitated strategic futures thinking for private sector, civil society and public organisations. Aidan is an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). He maintains a keen intellectual and professional interest in economic policy, financial markets, and trends in digital technologies and their impact on society.
