Description
Simona Petkova is part of the ‘Digital Education’ Unit of the European Commission, tasked with the implementation of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027.
Currently, Simona coordinates the effective and ethical policy response to Artificial Intelligence in education, part of which is the EU-OECD AI literacy framework for primary and secondary education. She is also a policy lead on promoting educational approaches to boosting digital literacy and building resilience to disinformation, most recently though the Updated Guidelines for teachers on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy.
Previously, Simona oversaw stakeholder engagement and strategic communications as well as the implementation of the Digital Education Hackathon and the EU support for EdTech.
Prior to joining the Commission in 2017, Simona supported bridging the gender digital divide in another international organisation. She holds MSc in Media and Communications Governance from the London School of Economics and Political Science and BSc (Hons) in Media Studies and Sociology from City, University of London.
