Digital education for a strong recovery: A forward look

Gavin Dykes is Programme Director of the Education World Forum (2004-2022) and the Asian Summit on Education and Skills (2014 – 2020), and Virtual TIESS (the International Education and Skills Summit) (2021). Gavin’s responsibilities include setting the themes and agenda and negotiating the programme with Ministers and speakers. In January 2020, 112 Ministers attended the Education World Forum, and more than 100 countries were represented. Gavin has served on Advisory Boards for a number of Ed-Tech organisations. He currently serves on advisory boards for ISTE, Karanga, Lyfta, 01 Founders and University of the People. He is one of three judges of student projects for Empathy Week (2021). He has worked in consultancy and advisory roles internationally for the OECD, UNESCO, the World Bank and for governments, agencies and foundations. Among OECD initiatives, Gavin moderated the TALIS launch in Tokyo, the first Global Education Industry Summit in Helsinki and Skills Summits in Bergen and Porto. Gavin is co-author of “Aspire High – Imagining Tomorrow’s School today (2017)” and also co-author of the World Bank publication “Building and Sustaining National Educational Technology Agencies: Lessons, Models and Case Studies from Around the World (2017)”. Gavin’s former roles include Associate Director of the Innovation Unit, when it was part of government in the UK and Associate Director of Futurelab which developed research and guidance around innovative learning practice. Gavin’s focus in these roles and others has most often included, innovation in education and use of technology to support learning. Gavin has contributed to teaching in the Master’s Degree in Education Entrepreneurship program at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania and worked with the NEA Foundation in the US to support development of the Global Learning Fellows program.
