Md. Abul Kalam Azad is Special Envoy of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) Presidency where he represents H. E. Sheikh Hasina, Hon. Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the CVF Chair. The CVF/V20 presidency is vested in the Government of Bangladesh. Special Envoy Azad is also Distinguished Fellow of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), which serves as Managing Partner of support to the CVF and the V20 Finance Ministers Group, under joint appointment by the CVF Chair H.E. Sheikh Hasina and the GCA chair, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations. Following decades of experience in the Bangladesh public service, Special Envoy Azad was previously the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and was responsible, along with others, establishment of 100 Economic Zones, development of investment and business climate and also worked as Principal SDG Coordinator for the national coordination of Bangladesh’s efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals, based in the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office. Special Envoy Azad also served as secretary of the Power Division of the Government of Bangladesh, where his efforts helped to increase Bangladesh’s power generation capacity by three times, expand energy access and develop one of the world’s largest renewable energy projects which has resulted in millions of low-income households across the country benefiting from renewable power. He also leads 2 million youths of Bangladesh Scouts as its President for character building and self-reliance.
