Biography

Radu Marinescu was born on 25 May 1973 in Craiova, Romania, where he would later build both his professional and political career. He graduated as valedictorian from the Faculty of Law at the University of Craiova in 1995 and attended an “Introduction to European Law” course at Tilburg University, Netherlands, in 1994. He began his legal career as a trainee lawyer at the Dolj County Bar Association and established his own law office in Craiova in 1999, representing both public institutions and high-profile clients. In 2009, he was awarded the title of Doctor of Juridical Sciences by the Nicolae Titulescu Faculty of Law, University of Craiova, and also completed a teaching certification at Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest. Mr. Marinescu entered politics in 2016 as a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), serving multiple terms as a local councillor in Craiova. In 2024, he was elected Deputy for Dolj constituency and later appointed Minister of Justice in the government of Marcel Ciolacu. He was reconfirmed in June 2025 in the government of Ilie Bolojan and is responsible for implementing the government’s justice reform agenda.
