Biography
Elvyn Leonel Díaz Sánchez holds a Bachelor's degree in Legal and Social Sciences, and is a qualified Lawyer and Notary. He completed a Master's in Criminal Procedural Law and received international training in justice, criminal policy, and crime prevention. His professional career has focused on promoting human rights, strengthening the rule of law, and improving justice systems across Latin America.
He has served as a legal advisor in various public, private, and international institutions. From 2007 to 2021, he was a faculty member at the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala. Additionally, he has worked as a legal coordinator in different entities, leading strategic litigation in human rights matters. He was Deputy Attorney General during Claudia Paz y Paz's tenure and supported cases related to the now-defunct International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG).
On May 22, 2025, he was appointed Executive Director of the Presidential Commission for Peace and Human Rights (COPADEH), succeeding Yolanda Pérez Ruiz. In this role, he coordinates peace and human rights policies in Guatemala
