Biography
Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi is a career Italian diplomat with extensive experience in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. He joined the Italian diplomatic service in 1988, graduating top of his class, and began his career at the Italian Embassy in Beirut during the final stages of the Lebanese civil war.
He has held key positions at the Italian Representation to the European Union in Brussels, including chairing the “Asia” Working Group during Italy’s EU Presidency, and later served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, contributing to the Nice Treaty negotiations and European integration initiatives.
Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi has been Ambassador to Doha, Qatar (2004–2008), and Tripoli, Libya (2011–2015, 2019–2023), and served as Director General for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2015–2019). Since June 2023, he is the Italian Ambassador to Madrid, Spain.
Throughout his career, he has played a central role in advancing Italy’s diplomatic relations, multilateral cooperation, and European integration.
