Mr. Suresh Mathur has rich experience both in regulatory mechanism and also working knowledge of insurance companies. Mr. Mathur presently working in the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), India has a very rich experience in insurance regulatory framework. He has been with the IRDA right from its inception and worked at various levels and presently posted as Head of the Department of the Non-Life Insurance Department in the capacity of Senior Joint Director. Before joining the Authority, Mr. Mathur worked with the largest Public Sector Non-Life Insurance company viz. The New India Assurance Co. Ltd which has presence in many countries in the World. He has the operational experience of around nine years and his assignment includes underwriting and claims management in addition to market development issues. He had been involved in the framing of IRDA Act, 1999, amendment of Insurance Act, 1938 and various regulations made there under since the inception of IRDA from 1996 which form the basis for formation of the IRDA which opened up the insurance sector to private players in India. His experience in IRDA includes licensing of insurance companies, supervision of insurance companies, licensing of insurance intermediaries such as insurance brokers, corporate agents and Third Party Administrators and their supervision. He has the knowledge and functioning of IAIS and also attended some of the annual conferences and working party meetings of IAIS. His initiative with respect to raising the standards of life insurance agents in India in association with CII, London was well received by the industry. Mr. Mathur holds a Master’s Degree in Management in addition to a Post Graduate Diploma in General Insurance.
