Description

Anthony Nyong is the Director of Climate Change and Green Growth at the African Development Bank, currently seconded as Regional Director for Africa at the Global Center on Adaptation. With nearly 30 years of experience across academia, the private sector, and development finance, his expertise spans environmental management, climate policy, renewable energy, and green growth. At the African Development Bank, he has held several leadership roles, including Coordinator of the New Deal on Energy for Africa and Head of Climate Change and Sustainable Development. Prior to this, he was a Senior Climate Change Specialist at Canada’s IDRC and a Professor of Climate Change at the University of Jos, Nigeria. Prof. Nyong has served on numerous global advisory boards, including the IPCC, the Global Environment Facility, and the World Economic Forum’s Circular Economy platform. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from McMaster University, and is a Fellow of both the African Academy of Sciences and the Royal Geographical Society. In 2019, he was named among the top 20 of Apolitical’s 100 Most Influential People in Climate Policy.
