Description

A full professor of Physics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), a 1A researcher of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). In 2020, she was recognized by UN Women as one of the women who changed the world with science and by Forbes Magazine as one of the 20 most powerful women in Brazil. In 2021, she was awarded the Silvio Torres Medal by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fapergs). For her work in favor of Brazilian science, she received the Medal of Scientific Merit in the rank of Commander from the Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil in 2018. Her advocacy for Brazilian postgraduate education earned her the Anísio Teixeira Award in 2016, granted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes). For her study of water anomalies, she received the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award and the Claudia Science Award, both in 2013. She was awarded the Nicholson Medal by the American Physical Society in 2009 for her work towards more women in science
