Geographical location

The Republic of Paraguay is located in the heart of South America, it borders Bolivia and Brazil to the north, Brazil to the east, Argentina to the south, and again by Argentina and Brazil. Its capital, Asunción, is situated on the banks of the Paraguay River and serves as the country’s main political, economic, and cultural centre. Paraguay is known for its diverse geography, which combines plains, hills, and forest regions, especially in the Chaco and the Oriental Region.

Language

The official languages in Paraguay are Spanish and Guaraní, the latter being one of the few indigenous languages with official status in the Americas. Both languages coexist in daily life, the media, and public institutions. At the Summit, all sessions will feature simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and English.

Climate of Asunción

Asunción has a humid subtropical climate. During November, average temperatures range between 25°C and 35°C (77°F to 95°F), with high humidity and a likelihood of occasional rain showers. Participants are advised to wear light, formal clothing.

Gastronomy 

Paraguayan cuisine reflects a blend of indigenous and European influences. Among the most representative dishes are sopa paraguaya, mbejú, chipa, vorí vorí, and asado. Traditional beverages include tereré (a cold yerba mate infusion) and mate cocido. In Asunción, visitors will find both traditional Paraguayan restaurants and high-end international dining options.

Electricity

The standard voltage in Paraguay is 220V with a frequency of 50Hz. Power outlets use Type C (European, two round pins) and Type F plugs. Visitors whose devices are from countries with different systems are advised to bring suitable adapters.

Currency, foreign exchange, and use of credit cards

The official currency is the Paraguayan Guaraní (PYG). It is recommended to exchange foreign currency at banks or authorised exchange offices. The use of international debit and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) is widely accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops. For small payments, carrying local currency in cash is advisable.
