Description

Masahiko Murase joined the Ministry of Construction (MLIT, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism since 2001 after the reform), Government of Japan in 1992, where he has held the position of Public Official for civil services until now. His position covers the expertise on water resources management and disaster risk reduction for sustainable development, robustness of society toward natural hazards and consensus building methodology through public involvement both from academic and administrative tasks. In August 2016-June 2019, he was the Principal Management and Programme Analyst (Water and Disaster) at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations in New York, USA. In 2019-2021, he returned to MLIT as Director, International Affairs Office, Water and Disaster Management Bureau. After General Manager, Kansai/Shikoku Office, Japan Water Agency in 2021-2022, he has been appointed as the Director, International Cooperation and Engineering for Infrastructure, Overseas Projects Division, Policy Bureau, MLIT since July 2022. Masahiko Murase received the Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Engineering, in 1990, 1992, and 2012, respectively, from Kyoto University, Japan. He also received the Master of Public Administration in 2001 from Cornell University, USA. His professional interest includes how science and technology contribute to the Sustainable Development, in particular, in the field of water resources and disaster risk management.
