Biography

Ms. Aurelia Spataru serves as the Deputy Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova. Ms. Spataru has an extensive professional and academic background. She completed her doctoral studies in Economic Statistics at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova from 2010 to 2013. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Economics in Cybernetics and Economic Informatics from the same institution between 1993 and 1998. Additionally, she holds an English Language Diploma from Lyceum "Spiru Haret" and a Postsecondary vocational education diploma as a PC operator from the Republican College of Informatics. Ms. Spataru's professional journey includes significant roles such as Deputy General Director at the National Bureau of Statistics since 2019, and Project Manager for the UN Joint Project on Strengthening the National Statistical System under the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova from 2007 to 2019. She also served as an Assistant and Programme Coordinator at the Soros Foundation Moldova, a Consultant at the Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry, and a Consultant at the Consulting agency “ECCE”. Her part-time activities include managing the "Strengthening the Statistical System of the Republic of Moldova" project funded by the World Bank and assisting in various projects related to agriculture policy, energy sector privatization, and social assistance system restructuring. Ms. Spataru has also contributed to scientific literature, co-authoring works on the impact of decentralization on equality and methodological aspects of human development measurement in Moldova.
