Matti Vanhanen was appointed Finland’s Finance Minister in June 2020. Previously he served as Prime Minister (2003–2010), Speaker of Parliament (2019–2020) and Minister of Defence (April–June 2003). He has been a Member of Parliament since 2015, and from 1991 to 2010. Mr Vanhanen also served as chairperson of the Financial Supervisory Authority (2015-2019). He was chairperson of the Economic Council of Finland (2003–2010). Mr Vanhanen graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1989 (Master of Social Sciences), and his Master’s Thesis topic was “Government Report as a guiding document in the operations of the public administration”.
