Description
Professor Annamaria La Chimia Laurea (La Sapienza, Rome) LLM and PhD (Nottingham) is a Professor of Law and Development and Director of the Public Procurement Research Group at the School of Law, University of Nottingham, UK. She is also a Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University, South Africa (since 2019). In 2021 Professor La Chimia was nominated Special Procurement Advisor for the EU External Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia) and from 2021 to 2024 she worked as external senior advisor for the World Bank on gender responsive procurement and food procurement, acting as lead author of the World Bank Practice Note Towards Gender Responsive Procurement (published in 2022) and of the Policy Paper Gender Responsive Procurement in the Caribbean: A Tool Towards more Inclusive and Resilient Societies (2023).
Professor La Chimia has published extensively in the areas of aid effectiveness, food security and food procurement, sustainable procurement, development aid procurement, and procurement by multilateral and bilateral aid donors. Her work has featured in International and European Law Journals and international edited collections. She is the author of Tied aid and Development Aid Procurement in the framework of EU and WTO Law: the imperative for Change (Hart) and several seminal edited volumes.
She worked in numerous countries in Africa, Europe, Latin America and Asia and acted as expert consultant for numerous international organizations and governments, including the World Bank, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the UK Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI), the European Commission (DG External Relations and Internal Market), the NGO ActionAid, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and OECD/SIGMA, the Italian Ministry of Education, the World Bank
