Ment van der Zwan
Spokesman on Social Affairs
My name is Ment van der Zwan. I was born in Scheveningen in a family of fishermen and net makers. In 1979 I accepted a job in a Dutch fishing company that is one of the largest today. On behalf of the Dutch fishing vessel owners I participate in national, European and international social dialogue, often as spokesman for the employers in sea-fisheries. In that capacity I was involved in the making of the ILO Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (C188) and the social partners agreement implementing C188 in European Union legislation. Nationally I was the spokesman in the social dialogue on implementing the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC) and C188 in the Dutch legislation.
