OECD Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector

Working on water – why better reporting is needed

Feb 19, 2024 | 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM

Description

Organised by: Planet Tracker The textile sector is a significant user of water during its manufacturing processes. This makes it vulnerable to risk from rising water stress and also a contributor to this risk. Understanding the use of water and how workers and local communities are impacted by water use for textiles is critical for a sustainable industry. Businesses must engage with their supply chains to understand how they use water and the risk from water stress on a facility by facility basis, recognising variation between different river basins and different competing demands for water. This panel discussion will look at the state of supply chain water due diligence today and how investors, regulators and corporates should act to improve the measuring and reporting of water impacts in the textile supply chain.
