Stephen Kohn

National Whistleblower Center

Chairman of the Board of Directors and Attorney at Law

Description

Stephen M. Kohn is a founding partner of the law firm Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto LLP and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Whistleblower Center. Steve has exclusively represented whistleblowers since 1984, setting numerous legal precedents. More recently his practice has focused on international anti-corruption, representing international whistleblowers under the Foreign Corrupt Practices, Dodd-Frank, Commodity Exchange, Anti-Money Laundering, and Internal Revenue Acts. He represented Howard Wilkinson, who exposed the $230 billion money laundering scandal at the Danske Bank-Estonia, numerous Swiss bankers, who have obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in financial rewards for successfully reporting illegal offshore banking, and non-U.S. FCPA whistleblowers who obtained rewards under the FCPA. He also has successfully represented whistleblowers in retaliation cases, including administrative, appellate, and jury-trial advocacy. Steve has worked with Congress in helping to draft whistleblower laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd-Frank, AML, Internal Revenue, and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Acts. In 1985 he wrote the first legal treatise on whistleblowing. His eighth book on whistleblower law is Rules for Whistleblowers: A Handbook for Doing What’s Right (Lyons Press: 2023). He teaches a seminar on Whistleblowing at the Northeastern University School of Law.
