Biography

Dr. Hans-Jörn Weddige represents Business at OECD (BIAC), where he chairs the Environment and Energy Committee since a number of years. He has a broad experience in the UNFCCC climate processes including business observer in several functions in the Technology Executive Committee (TEC). In his main job he is currently Head of Climate Funds Strategies at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG. As such his responsibility includes the 2 billion Euro funding received for the innovative hydrogen based steelmaking route. Before that he was Group Coordinator Climate, Energy and Environment Policies at the whole thyssenkrupp Group and previously Head of Climate Action at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe. His career encompasses several stations at the worldsteel Association, academic postings in Germany and Canada, and an extensive military career in the German Army. He holds amongst others an honours degree in “Metallurgy, Economics and Management” (M. Eng. hons.) from Oxford University (UK) and a doctorate in ferrous metallurgy from Technical University Mining Academy Freiberg (Germany), as well as an executive management education at INSEAD (France) and legal studies. He is a proud father of three daughters and uncle of five nieces confronted with what his generation does – or not.
