Biography

Sylvie Durrer is the Director of the Federal Office for Gender Equality FOGE since 2011. Her office is particularly involved in promoting equality in working life and combating pay inequalities between women and men, as well as violence against women and domestic violence. Sylvie Durrer is currently Vice-President of the Swiss Conference of Gender Equality Delegates. She is a regular member of the Swiss delegation to the UN Commission on the Status of Women. At international level, she has been chairing the Bureau of the OECD Working Party on Gender Mainstreaming and Governance (GMG) since 2022. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), an initiative launched in 2017 by the ILO, UN Women and the OECD. From 2018 to 2021, she was a board member of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development UNRISD. In 2018, her office received a UN Public Service Award for its large-scale public sector initiative called SAGE “Switzerland Advancing Gender Equal Pay”. Born in 1960, Sylvie Durrer holds a doctorate in linguistics and a postgraduate diploma in public action and public policy management.
