Description
Elizabeth Adams is President of the European Federation of Nurse Associations and represents 3 million nurses across Europe. She is Adjunct Associate Professor with Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia, Honorary Fellow Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, and Adjunct Faculty Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
Elizabeth previously served as Director of Professional Development with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, where she developed and delivered over 100 national specialists education programmes. Prior to this, as a consultant on Nursing and Health Policy with the International Council of Nurses, Geneva, Switzerland she developed programme areas related to socio-economic welfare, occupational health and safety, positive practice environments, violence, human resources development, international migration, leadership, older person care, environmental issues and disaster nursing. She was the Director of the International Centre of Human Resources for Nursing and Director of the WHO GHWA, International Positive Practice Environments Campaign. In the past, she has also been contracted by WHO Europe to undertake advisory and technical work on the European Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery.
Beforehand, Elizabeth served as Director of Nursing and Midwifery for the Health Service Executive in Ireland. Over her nursing career she has worked for both the Department of Health in Ireland and Western Australia (WA). In WA, she helped to manage significant health reform and was instrumental in leading the drafting and implementation of legislation and regulations that established the nurse and midwife practitioner role. In addition, she has worked for the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery and for seventeen years in clinical and management positions with the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Ireland.
