Biography

Dr. Sahar Nasr is a member of the Egyptian Senate, and the Deputy Head of its Finance, Economic, and Investment Committee. Dr. Nasr is the Advisor to His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the ‎ Secretary General of the Zakat and Charities Fund, the humanitarian and development arm of Al-Azhar. Previously, she served as the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation. During her tenure she spearheaded key legal and regulatory reforms to promote a conducive investment climate and private sector-led growth. Prior to that, she was an advisor to the President of Egypt, contributing to the development the ‎national economic and structural reform program.‎ Dr. Nasr was also the Lead Economist of the Finance and Private Sector Development Division at the World Bank, where she spent more than 20 years. Dr. Nasr is a Professor of Economics at the American University in Cairo and several other international universities and has authored numerous internationally recognized books and ‎articles.‎
